Murder on the Dance Floor: The Best Wedding Dance Moves

When it comes to weddings, there are many special moments: the I do’s, the first kiss as man and wife, the cake cutting, but in all honesty, our favourite moment is when the dance floor opens up. And why shouldn’t it be? Everyone remembers when the newlyweds had their first dance, or when Granddad boogies down to the chicken dance- every moment is golden on the dance floor!

And as providers of wedding lighting hire in Essex, we appreciate a good old dance routine as much as anyone else, but because everyone has their own moves and bogeys in their own way, how do we know which ones are the best. Well, as goes with our territory, we’ve been to a wedding or two so we can act as an authority on the subject here.

The Macarena

Yes this Spanish dance song is absolute classic; and it’s perfect for getting everyone involved and doing a routine that’s pretty simplistic! While we know there was recent news about the song’s meaning, schools around the country have been playing this song at their discos for years, and that feeling of nostalgia is a nice addition to any wedding. So, get everyone up, keep the tempo up, and prepare for someone to jump the wrong way on ‘Aye’.

The Cha-Cha

Another one for the group! The Cha-cha is a little easier than the Macarena as all you need to do is follow the instructions that are spoken to you. Of course, the most fun that comes from this dance is all the different interpretations when you’re told to ‘cha-cha real smooth’- some people dance on the spot, some people shake their hips, some even make the dance floor theirs and just go wild.

The Robot

If you’re the kind of dancer that likes to show off, there’s no better move than the robot. We don’t know what it is about this move that gets everyone opening up the dance floor for more, but we do know that all eyes will be on you. This one looks good and it can take some skill to pull off so expect to get a lot of applause once your routine is finished.

The Worm

Another one to impress all those around you. If you can manage to make this one look smooth, then you deserve all the attention you get! Of course, it can look a bit weird if you don’t know how to do it properly, but just go with it! Weddings are about fun and making memories, and a poorly performed worm can make someone’s night so either way, you’re in for a win!

These are just a few of our favourite dances moves, but in all honesty, there is no bad dance move for a wedding. As long as you’re having fun and so is everyone else, nothing else matters.
